Frankfurt/M., January 12, 2018

Turkish home textile industry - one of the four largest exporters in this segment worldwide

The home textiles industry represents an important economic sector for Turkey. Turkish textile companies and their products have an excellent reputation all over the world and are in great demand. This was confirmed once again at today's International Trade Fair for Home Textiles.

By the end of 2017, exports of home textiles had reached 2.7 billion dollars. This makes Turkey one of the four largest textile exporters in the world. Turkish companies have a 4.5% share of the world market for home textiles. The products of the Turkish home textile industry are mainly in the medium and upper price segment.

"Turkey is one of the first countries that comes to mind on the world markets when it comes to home textiles. In this respect, Turkey has also become one of the most important centres setting trends and fashion in the global textile industry.

In addition, our companies are aware of the importance of healthier and more environmentally friendly products. At this point, the Turkish home textile industry offers the highest quality standards in all aspects, from production to the promotion of quality standards to marketing. We increase our competitiveness through progress and innovation," said Ibrahim Burkay, Chairman of the Bursa Chamber of Commerce, and Head of UTIB, Uladag Textile Exporter's Association.

UTIB represents 1,200 Turkish textile export companies, 40% of which specialise in home textiles and contract production. In 2016, they exported goods worth 1.6 billion dollars (around 1.3 billion euros).

Germany most important export market

In 2017, Turkey's exports to Germany reached 452 million dollars (around 373 million euros). Germany thus occupies first place in Turkish home textile exports. With a market share of 16%, Turkey is the second largest supplier on the German market after China. Preferred products are towels and bathroom textiles, bed linen and room textiles, especially curtains.

The Heimtextil trade fair and its significance

As one of the first trade fairs of the year, Heimtextil is of immense importance for representatives of the industry to present new designs and products as well as to see the offers of competitors. UITB took part in the fair for the 9th time this year. The "Turkish Home Textile" concept was on show. The aim was to present the diversity in design and materiality and to further strengthen the perception of Turkish brands and products in the eyes of international trade visitors.

In the so-called "trend area", the companies were present with new and innovative products, explained the trends for the years 2018-19 and showed visitors new collections.

2018 Record attendance by Turkish exhibitors at Heimtextil

This year 257 Turkish companies took part in the fair. 98 of these come from Bursa, one of the centres of the Turkish home textile industry. The "Centre for Textile and Technical Textile Excellence" was also established in Bursa - the first of its kind in Turkey.
